WHO WE ARE
LUTHERAN COUNSELING CENTER (LCC) of the New York metropolitan area is a (501C-3) nonprofit organization with six counseling sites that offer health, hope, and wholeness by promoting faith-based individual and family psychotherapy. LCC has licensed professional pastoral counselors, social workers, and psychologists from a Christian backbround. We value each person as a unique and worthy creation of God. Our therapists serve persons and families of different ethnic and religious backgrounds, many of whom have limited financial resources.
OUR ROOTS AND PARTNERSHIPS
LCC is affiliated with the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and also partners with The Atlantic district of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The ministry of the Center is supported by 43 Association Congregations and relates to the wider community through 350 congregations and many schools.
OUR HISTORY
Founded in 1989 by several pastoral counselors, LCC has been established as a Center where trusted professionals provide counseling that is a rich combination of psychology and religion. The first site was at Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, Mineola, NY.
FAITH AND HEALING
The connection between one's faith and the process of healing and growth is recognized at LCC. Whether acknowledged or not (it is always the client's choice), God and faith are present in the fundamental struggles of life.
OUR EXPERTISE IN DISASTER COUNSELING
After the 9/11 disaster of 2001, LCC provided seven years of counseling for disaster victims through its partnership with Lutheran Disaster Response of New York (LDRNY). Our therapists have had special training in disaster response and in treating post-traumatic stress disorder. We continue to see people affected by the 9/11 disaster even though our grant funding has ended.
