Is your pre-teen or teen daughter struggling with self-esteem or body image issues?
Self-Respect: Getting There Together*

Self-Respect: Getting There Together* is for girls (5th through 12th grades) who struggle with poor self-esteem and issues of body image (including tendencies toward self-injuries, addictions, behavioral issues and eating disorders)

The program each year consists of
1. Weekly Support Group Sessions held in Mineola, NY dealing with the following issues:
• understanding body image and media influence
• developing a healthy self-perception
• ending destructive patterns of behavior
• managing your emotions in healthy ways
• setting boundaries: abusive vs. healthy relationships
• handling peer pressure and rejection or loss
• avoiding over and under achievement; setting boundaries
• making healthy decisions and taking control of your life

2. Individual weekly one-on-one counseling sessions may also be available at any time of the year

3. Parent supportive groups will also meet weekly at same time as girls’ groups:
• to give parents a chance to ask questions about dealing with specific situations at home
• to support parents in their efforts to help their daughters heal
• to provide a safe place to voice fears and emotions about their specific situations
• to provide group support by other parents going through the same issues with their children

Contact Lutheran Counseling Center (516-741-0994 or e-mail: Center@lccny.org) for more information or to register your daughter for this program.

*This three year program (for 2009, 2010, & 2011) is made possible, in part, through grants from the Lutheran Services for Children Endowment at the ELCA Foundation, the Laura B. Vogler Foundation and the WE CARE Fund of the Nassau County Bar Association.
