Modern Proverbs for Marriage

Posted | Comments Off on Modern Proverbs for Marriage

In my work as a marriage counselor, I’ve been collecting some modern proverbs about couple relationships. They contain a lot of wisdom also. I frequently share them with my clients. Some are very powerful and I’m thinking that sharing them here might be helpful to some of you. So here are a few wise proverbs I’ve found – none original with me. Enjoy! As you may know, the book of Proverbs in the Bible contains a lot of wisdom to live by. For example: “Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.” (17:14); “A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is...

Infidelity: Ancient and Current

Posted | Comments Off on Infidelity: Ancient and Current

By Rev. Alan F. Steinke, LCSW-R, LCC Pastoral Therapist Infidelity is rampant. The most recent studies indicate that 44 to 52 percent of men, and 25 to 30 percent of women have affairs. But infidelity is nothing new. In II Samuel, chapter 11, we read of King David and his lust for Bathsheba which became a very famous, vicious and heinous infidelity. It is worth a reading as an adjunct to these paragraphs. We know that adultery has shadowed marriage from the beginning, and so too has the taboo against it. Infidelity is the only sin that gets two commandments in the Bible—one for committing it...

An All-Or-Nothing Marriage? *

Posted | Comments Off on An All-Or-Nothing Marriage? *

By Rev. Dr. Ronald Lehenbauer Do we expect more from marriage today than our parents or grandparents did? Our culture is rapidly changing, and marriage is changing with it.  In our times marriage is no longer a precondition for becoming a grownup, getting it on, ensuring economic security, or having kids. We...

They contain a lot of wisdom also. I frequently share them with my clients. Some are very powerful and I’m thinking that sharing them here might be helpful to some of you. So here are a few wise...

The Caveats of the Online Date

Posted | Comments Off on The Caveats of the Online Date

At a recent social gathering, there was a discussion about online dating. There were two distinct themes. One person had met their (now) spouse online. They had dated online, and then met in person. They liked each other. They married more than five years ago and are doing well. In contrast, a conversation sprung up among the single members of the group who swore by online dating services because they were expedient. It saves busy professionals the time spent “hanging out” to “pick up.” There are at least three kinds of sites that fall in the online dating genre. First there is the...
