Anthony Stephens

The Rev. Anthony Stephens, Ph.D., J.D., LMHC:  In 2020 Anthony Stephens, PhD will celebrate the 25th anniversary of his ordination as a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Although much of this time has been spent in parish ministry, his vocation has consistently focused on mental health and adjustment issues, and particularly the cultivation of resilience. He very much believes that we are “human becomings” rather than merely human beings. His integrated holistic approaches focus not only on mitigating trauma, loss and grief, but more so in promoting personal and systemic growth.

Stephens holds a PhD in human development from the University of Rochester, a juris doctorate from Pace University and some other degrees picked up along the way. He is licensed in New York State as a mental health counselor and an attorney at law.

Stephens serves as a chaplain in the New York Army National Guard, with the rank of major. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2013. He is trained in critical incident stress management, combat medical ministry, and suicide prevention as an instructor.
