This Digital Age

You’re invited to join is on March 21 when we discuss Pastoral and Spiritual Care in a Digital World.

2019 Annual Meeting

March 21, 2018

From 6:00 p.m. (dinner) to 8:30 p.m.

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained, what is man that you are mindful of him?” Psalm 8:3-4a

In today’s world of constantly increasing technological advances, we think that we can “manage” our digital devices, not considering that the many distractions and time spent alone while exploring the internet, digital games or social media might actually be changing us, our children, families and churches. If so, how are we to respond? Where is God in all of this?

The Rev. Dr. Kirk Bingaman will present research findings and moderate a panel of fellow Lutheran Counseling Center (LCC) therapists who will discuss how the digital age is rapidly changing our world and what it means in terms of our own spiritual care and that of those in our care.

Kirk Bingaman, PhD, MDiv, LMHC, an LCC counselor, is Associate Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling in the Graduate School of Religion & Religious Education at Fordham University. An ordained Presbyterian minister, he is a licensed mental health counselor and a Fellow with the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.  He holds a PhD in Psychology & Theology from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA and a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. In addition to his new book, Pastoral and Spiritual Care in a Digital Age: The Future is Now (Lexington Books, 2018), his books include: The Power of Neuroplasticity for Pastoral and Spiritual Care (Lexington Books, 2014). Treating the New Anxiety: A Cognitive-Theological Approach (Jason Aronson, 2007) and Freud and Faith: Living in the Tension (SUNY Press, 2003).
